Dementia Friendly Theatre Days 2018

Canoe Theatre invite you to a Dementia Friendly theatre day, open to all. This is a sociable, relaxed and welcoming day of workshops, complimentary refreshments and good conversation.

 

As part of the day there will be a performance of This Incredible Life, a play that draws upon Wales in the 60s and 70s. The performance is ticketed with companion seats available. The play is 90 minutes long including an Interval where refreshments will be served.

 

You can come along for the afternoon or call in at your leisure. We look forward to welcoming you.

Ffwrness, Llanelli: Friday 28 September

  • 10.30-11.30am - Dementia Friends Session with The Alzheimer’s Society: Drop into this nationwide initiative where you can learn more about dementia and the small ways that you can help.

  • 12.00-12.45pm - Sing and Smile with Goldies Cymru

  • 12.45-1.30pm - Lunch and Table top activities with young volunteers from PeopleSpeakUp

  • 1.30-4pm Dementia Friendly performance of This Incredible Life, with refreshments and meet the actors afterwards.

Redhouse Cymru, Merthyr Tydfil: Monday 1 October

  • From 12.30pm - Call in for a cup of tea and a chat with the Alzheimer’s Society and find out about activities and groups that support living well with dementia.

  • 1.30-2.30pm - Dementia Friends Session with The Alzheimer’s Society: Drop into this nationwide initiative where you can learn more about dementia and the small ways that you can help.

  • 3-3.45pm - Singing for the Brain workshop. All welcome.

  • 4.30pm - Dementia Friendly performance of This Incredible Life, with afternoon tea served in the interval.  

  • 6pm - Dementia Friends Session.

Canolfan y Celfyddydau Aberystwyth Arts Centre: Tuesday 2 October

  • From 1pm - Call in for a cup of tea and a chat with the Alzheimer’s Society and find out about activities and groups that support living well with dementia.

  • 1.30pm - Participate in a creative workshop.

  • 3pm - Dementia Friendly performance of This Incredible Life, with refreshments and meet the actors afterwards. 

  • 4.45pm - Dementia Friends Session with The Alzheimer’s Society: Drop into this nationwide initiative where you can learn more about dementia and the small ways that you can help.

The Met, Abertillery: Wednesday 3 October

  • 10.30am - Call in for a cup of tea and a chat with the Alzheimer’s Society and find out about activities and groups that support living well with dementia.

  • 11.30am - Creative Techniques for family, friends and carers wishing to better manage Dementia.

  • 1.30pm - Dementia Friendly performance of This Incredible Life, with refreshments and meet the actors afterwards.

  • 3.30pm - Dementia Friends Session with The Alzheimer’s Society: Drop into this nationwide initiative where you can learn more about dementia and the small ways that you can help.

Chapter, Cardiff/Caerdydd: Friday 5 October

  • From 10am - Call in for a cup of tea and a chat with the Alzheimer’s Society and find out about activities and groups that support living well with dementia.

  • 10.30-11.30am - Dementia Friends Session with The Alzheimer’s Society: Drop into this nationwide initiative where you can learn more about dementia and the small ways that you can help.

  • 11.45am-12.30pm - Come and Sing!: Have fun and make music together. Led by members of The Forget-me-not Chorus.

  • 1-2pm - Refreshments with the cast and creatives of the play

  • 2.30-4pm - Dementia Friendly performance of This Incredible Life. 

  • 4.15-5.15pm - Dementia Friends Session.

Ysgol Aberconwy, Conwy:  Monday 8 October

  • 10am - Dementia Friends Session with The Alzheimer’s Society: Drop into this nationwide initiative where you can learn more about dementia and the small ways that you can help.

  • 12.30pm - Singing For The Brain: Using singing to bring people with dementia together in a friendly and stimulating activity.

  • 1.30pm - A light lunch provided by Sodexo in the school canteen during which there will be a musical performance by a group from the school.

  • 2.15pm - Dementia Friendly performance of This Incredible Life, with refreshments and meet the actors afterwards.

Pontio, Bangor: Tuesday 9 October

  • From 12pm - Call in for a cup of tea and a chat with the Alzheimer’s Society and find out about activities and groups that support living well with dementia.

  • 1-2pm - Participate in a creative workshop with Dawns i Bawb. Followed by refreshments.

  • 3 - 4.30pm - Dementia Friendly performance of This Incredible Life, with meet the actors afterwards. 

  • 5 - 6pm - Dementia Friends Session with The Alzheimer’s Society: Drop into this nationwide initiative where you can learn more about dementia and the small ways that you can help.

Sefydliad Y Glowyr Coed Duon / Blackwood Miners’ Institute: Thursday 11 October

  • From 10am - Call in for a cup of tea and a chat with the Alzheimer’s Society and find out about activities and groups that support living well with dementia.

  • 11am-12pm - Dementia Friends Session with The Alzheimer’s Society: Drop into this nationwide initiative where you can learn more about dementia and the small ways that you can help.

  • 12.15-1.15pm - Singing workshop: A fun session of interactive Music led by Michael of Music Care.

  • 1.30-2.30pm - Refreshments with the cast and creatives of the play

  • 3-4.30pm - Dementia Friendly performance of This Incredible Life. 

  • 5-6pm - Dementia Friends Session

What is a “Dementia Friendly” performance?

The play has been created to enable a relaxed audience experience:

  • The theatre will be well lit with comfortable sound levels.

  • There will be more space between seats.

  • You can leave the theatre and re-enter as and when you need to.

  • Refreshments will be served.

  • Friendly volunteers will help and direct throughout the day.
